Frontispiece by A.L. Ripley. [vi], 158 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Recollections by the celebrated sporting author and bibliographer John C. Phillips about gunning in south-eastern Massachusetts from the 1890s to the late 1920s, discussing the changing landscape of the state and its impact on sport: "Recent city or metropolitan development has swarmed out of the old centers and enveloped our ponds with thousands of fomrless and gaudy camps, thrown up for the most part without a thought for their appearance either from within or without. The old duck stands are gradually bein pushed to the wall, and except where a few owners can afford to hold large stretches of shore-line, they must eventually be replaced by summer homes. These notes are a first attempt to preserve a record, fragmentary at best, of the location, history, and, when possible, performances of some of these duck stands".
