Shakespeare Never Did This follows Bukowski as he travels through Europe on a literary tour, including a visit to his hometown of Andernach, Germany. The trip was documented by photographer Michael Montfort, who captures the author with all of his humor and humanity. Bukowski notoriously hated having his photograph taken, but was charmed by Montfort. The photographer described their first meeting: "It was a 1977 cover story for a German literary magazine named Rogners.I was scared shitless to meet the guy because of his image.
