Price: US$25.66 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Random House, New York 1940. first Edition. Book condition: very good. Covered in red cloth-covered boards, with blue title labels to front and spine. Creasing to bottom of spine and nicks out of spine label. Front bottom conrer bumped. Internally clean bright and unmarked. Map of colonial America to front endpapers. Graves' fictionalised biography of Sgt.Lamb, a real soldier in the British Army in the War of Independence. The publication of the book in the United States in 1940, can be seen as an attempt to remind that country of the long joint history between the United States and the United Kingdom, though it could be argued that reminding them of their suffering at the hands of the UK, may not have been the best approach. But a very readable fictionalised history.
