Condition: Good

Description: Publisher's brown cloth. Spine slightly faded and very slightly worn at head and tail, covers very slightly marked, edge of upper cover slightly bumped, rear hinge broken and rear free endpaper a little torn, some mild spotting of engraved title-page and frontispiece. The author's third novel, after Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice (first edition 1814, "printed for T. Egerton"), in a reprint of Bentley's Standard Novels edition of 1833, with three title-pages: series title-page (dated 1837), engraved title-page (dated 1833), individual title-page (dated 1833); 4pp. of publisher's advertisements at end. "The Standard Novels issues, and the collected edition [issued by Bentley also in 1833], were frequently reprinted," comments Austen's bibliographer David Gilson. However, "So few of these reprints survive in libraries, and even fewer in original condition" that the details he is able to provide "must be incomplete". This copy conforms to Gilson's copy of this printing he describes at p.226, D7.
