Some minor rubbing to edges and corners a little bumped. Two small nicks head of spine. Very slight lean to binding. Inside some light foxing on early pages, pages 16-17 have some faint offsetting from possibly a bookmark, rear endpaper small nick lower corner, else inside pages all clean and tight throughout. An attractive edition, of a piece - though carrying a distinct design - with the same publisher's 'Peacock Edition' of 'Pride and Prejudice', preceded also by the similarly attractive Hammond edition of 'Emma'. A first edition thus of this work, which was first published in 1811.Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous full page and vignette illustrations by Chris Hammond, a prominent female illustrator and artist, and a member of the Cranford School of illustrations, which was originated by Hugh Thomson.This first edition thus was produced to capitalise on the success of Hugh Thomson's 'Peacock Edition' of 'Pride and Prejudice', featuring a similar cloth binding and a similar style of illustration, and produced by the same publisher. Hammond also produced a similar edition of Austen's 'Emma'.Lacking the front free endpaper.A beautiful edition of this charming novel about the coming of age of the three Dashwood sisters. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt detailing. Externally, excellent. Light shelf wear to back strip tail, with minor bumps to back strip head. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Front free endpaper renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good
