Description: 1958. No edition remarks. 285 pages. No dust jacket. Paper covered boards and grey cloth to spine. Clean pages with noticeable foxing to endpapers. Tightly bound with faint thumb-marking throughout. Pencil inscription to front endpapers. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Mild scratching and marking to boards. Heavy tanning to spine, which has mild crushing and wear to ends.

Description: 285 pages with an introduction by the writer Richard Church and with a full page woodcut frontispiece and 8 smaller wood-engravings by Joan Hassall + vignette tailpiece, cloth spine a little sunned, patterned paper boards and oval woodcut of Jane Austen and Chawton Cottage as endpapers, in slip case, this has a closed split starting along one edge and loss of paper to bottom corner of slip case, contents very clean and hardly opened, Octavo. 1st edition thus; With these engravings by Joan Hassall (the daughter of John Hassall) and first lady Master of The Art Workers Guild also awarded an OBE in 1987 a year before she died. This is one of the 7 Jane Austen books illustrated by her between 1957-63 (will be listing all 7 titles).
