The dustwrapper is printed on nice quality thick textured paper. ***133 pages. 220mm x 142mm. ***'Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin 20 Mar 1770 - 7 Jun 1843) was a German poet and philosopher. Described by Norbert von Hellingrath as "the most German of Germans", Hölderlin was a key figure of German Romanticism. Particularly due to his early association with and philosophical influence on Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, he was also an important thinker in the development of German Idealism.' ***'The poetry of Hölderlin, widely recognized today as one of the high points of German literature, was little known or understood during his lifetime, and slipped into obscurity shortly after his death; his illness and reclusion made him fade from his contemporaries' consciousness - and, even though selections of his work were published by his friends during his lifetime, it was largely ignored for the rest of the 19th century.' [Wiki] ***Selected Poems: the German text chosen and translated, with introduction and notes by J. B. Leishman. ***The first impression of the true UK first edition, published during the Second World War. A nice wartime edition of Friedrich Hölderlin's poetry in collectable condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
