Noticeable shelfwear and edgewear to boards. Transparent tape from previous owner applied to spine. Chipping to top of spine with 3/4 inch of cloth missing. Back board is in intact, but loose. Else, a perfectly presentable reading copy.

Preliminaries browned, some bumping to corners and spine ends, production fault light creasing across front and (less so) rear panels. A presentable copy. Front panel illustration by M.J. Ford, dated 1904. First edition of this anthropological work from the author and polymath now best known for his Fairy Book collections of stories published from 1889 onwards.
