B/W frontispiece on a plate. The spine strip has a light, vertical bend line. Front endpaper: gift inscription with 1940 date; a chip on the top, right hand corner; a 1 in. scraped spot near the top end; a little of an edge was left turned under by the binder. DJ: 8 chips are 1/4 in. to 5/8 in.; 9 closed tears are 1/8 in. to 1 1/2 in., with tape on the reverse side of five of the tears; 2 crease lines are on the top margin of the front panel; a crease line is on the bottom margin of the back panel; the spine panel has darkened, and the back panel has less so; color has chipped off the front flap's fold and along the top and bottom edges of the front panel. The book was published by Grosset & Dunlap, Publishers in 1931 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. (It is last-listed on the copyright page and it has the appropriate 1931 date as well.) It's not an ex-library copy, is in good + condition, and it has no dust jacket. There is a bookstamp of one previous owner pasted to the front paste down end page, and the name of another previous owner written on the front loose end page. Like most of these older Nancy Drew hard covers I'm betting that the spine IS getting brittle. I've been very careful in my handling of it. The book is 5 1/4" by 7 5/8" and has 204 pages with some black-and-white illustrations/plates. It also has light blue boards with gold print bordered by black on the front board and pure black print on the spine. Thank you!
