Description: Boards (HB) in very good minus condition with rubbing to corners, browning to inner covers and back hinge slightly open. The book is still strong and unmarked inside with all the illustrations bright and clean. Many pages still uncut, page 27, line 3 is not upside down. Jan Juta (1895Ð1990) was a painter and muralist, close to D. H. Lawrence. Besides illustrating this book, Juta painted a portrait of Lawrence now in the National Portrait Gallery. Lawrence s travel memories, with beautiful color illustrations. SEA AND SARDINIA beautifully describes a brief excursion undertaken by Lawrence and Frieda, his wife (aka Queen Bee), from Taormina in Sicily to the interior of Sardinia. They visited Cagliari, Mandas, Sorgono, and Nuoro. Despite the brevity of his visit, Lawrence distils an essence of the island and its people that is still recognisable today. 355 pages with eight plates in color.
