The cloth along the spine edges is thin. Sunning/mottling to the spine cloth. A bit of sunning around the perimeter of the front board, and some rubbed soil to the rear board. The rear hinge is cracked. Page edges age-darkened, ad with some staining on the page fore-edges. The rear flyleaf is foxed; and there is a small inked note on the rear flyleaf. Doran Company under the name Sam In The Suburbs. This copy is an early reprint of the American First Edition. Octavo. 346 pages plus advertisements. Illustrated dust jacket is moderately soiled throughout, chipped along spine ends, and has a four inch tear tracing from top edge near front corner to near the middle of the front panel. Dampstain along top edge of rear panel which faintly echoes to rear board, though text/pastedown unaffected. Boards are in green pictorial cloth, stamped in gilt. Some fading to spine and soiling along edges. Boards a tad bowed and corners bumped. One nick at top of spine and rear bottom edge frayed. Bookseller ticket to rear pastedown. Sturdy in binding. Sam in the Suburbs was written before Wodehouse, one of the most popular humorists of the early 20th century, had reached the peak of his influence about a decade later. 7" x 5". 346 pp. Green cloth boards with black stamped pictorial cover design and titles to front and spine. Pictorial yellow dust jacket, illustration and title to front, title and $2.00 price to spine, short summary of book to rear, advertisements for other Doran publications on front and rear flaps. First American edition, "--Q--" on copyright page. Dust jacket is fair; front cover is vibrant and illustration is intact, but 1" chip to head fore edge, heavy rubbing to all edges, 2" chip missing from spine in center, ½" chip missing from rear cover, repairs were made to head, tail, and spine of jacket with a cloth-based adhesive. Jacket now protected in Mylar. Boards are heavily rubbed at head and tail, black titles and design are intact. Gift inscription on ffep dated 1925, text is bright and without any foxing.
