Description: London, John Lane The Bodley Head, 1912 [but a little later]. Small octavo, xxvi, 82, [6] (publisher's advertisements) pages with a pictorial title plus 15 full-page plates by Aubrey Beardsley. Gilt-decorated green cloth; top edge gilt, others uncut; cloth lightly marked and rubbed, and very lightly worn at the extremities; endpapers offset; ownership details on the front free endpaper (including a signature on a small paper label mounted over earlier names); a few tiny tears and chips to protruding leading edges, with a larger chip to the bottom edge (near the gutter) of one leaf and one plate; a very good copy. An early edition not noted by Mason/Millard, Mikolyzk or Gallatin. It contains much the same material as the Bodley Head quarto edition of 1907 and its 1912 reissue (Mason/Millard 355 and 356), but in reduced format. These editions were the first ones to contain the lengthy introduction ('A Note on "Salomé"') by Robert Ross, executor and administrator of Wilde's estate. The translation is by Wilde's sometime lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, with revisions.
