Description: Copy with all illustrations by Beardsley, including the suppressed frontispiece (hermaphrodite genitalia!). Green binding with elaborate gilt design imprinted on cover and gilt on spine. Some rubbing and wear at all extremities,especially spine and top right hand front cover edge, but still very lovely and solid. Inside front and back endpapers are very shadowed, but the rest of the pages are very crisp, clean and bright. Introduction by Robert Ross. Rather sumptuous, as is fitting. Size: 8vo

Four page introduction, A Note on 'Salomé' , by Robert Ross. Cover design and sixteen plates, on Japanese vellum, by Aubrey Beardsley. Translated into English by Lord Alfred Douglas. Includes the casts for the first performance of the play in England in 1905 and for the première of Richard Strauss's opera. Top edge gilt.On the rear free endpaper is a much-faded gift inscription from a member of the San Francisco Haas family. The inscription includes the address 2007 Van Ness Avenue, which is now the Haas-Lilienthal House, one of only two house museums in the city.Endpapers faintly tanned. Rear cover partially darkened. Small bump to bottom edge of rear cover. Very good indeed.
