Description: 1st US edition, first printing. [4], 270pp. In blue cloth-covered boards with black titles front and spine. 'Red Badge Detective' logos on endpapers. 8vo. Cloth is heavily worn, stained around upper leading corner, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine tips, sunned over spine. Text block edges a little toned. Some very occasional, faint spotting internally but generally neat and clean. Very slightly loose. The covers have been protected in a plastic wrapper, fitted without adhering to volume, but the wrapper itself is a little old and worn. A decent but not pretty US first edition copy of this Hercule Poirot mystery from the Queen of Crime. Not in collectible condition but may serve to fill a gap in a collection until a better copy can be sourced and afforded.

Description: Grosset & Dunlap, New York. 1940. 269 pages. 1st Grosset Edition. Grosset & Dunlap is a reprint house that released this uncommon Christie title in 1940 in association with Dodd, Mead. Binding and hinges are tight and strong. Red boards are bright with minor rubbing to corner tips. FFEP has a bookplate belonging to a former owner. DJ art is the same as that on the 1st American printing from Dodd, Mead & Co. Madison Squar. DJ shows chipping at corner tips and at foot of backstrip. Open chip at crown of backstrip that stretches to upper edge on front. An uncommon title in a more uncommon DJ.

Description: First American edition of this Hercule Poirot novel. Publisher's original light blue cloth with dark blue titles to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth a little toned to the edges with a small hole to the upper hinge and minor fraying at the spine tips. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with a spectacular fine example of the first state dustwrapper that has a faint vertical crease to the spine and is otherwise as bright, crisp and fresh as the day it was published. Not price-clipped ($2.00 to the upper front flap). First published in the UK by Collins in The Crime Club in March 1940, the American edition followed shortly after (in the same year).
