Christie, Agatha. Sad Cypress. London Collins [Crime Club] 1940, 1940.

Price: US$12560.56 + shipping

Description: A first edition, first printing published by Collins [Crime Club] in 1940. A near fine book with one neat inscription to the front endpaper, accompanied by a small bookseller's ticket to the foot of the pastedown. Absolutely no fading to the spine - a touch rubbed to the edges. In a very good wrapper which is unpriced and unclipped. The wrapper is completely without restoration. A minute chip to the edge of the spine foot. The rear panel is exceptionally clean and the wrapper is in very fresh condition. The story revolves around the character of Elinor Carlisle, who is accused of murdering her rival in love, Mary Gerrard. Hercule Poirot is called in to investigate. The novel delves into themes of jealousy, love, and the complexities of human relationships, with Poirot using his keen deductive skills to uncover the truth behind the murder. As with many of Christie's works, "Sad Cypress" is known for its intricate plot and unexpected twists. The title is drawn from a song in Shakespeare's play 'Twelfth Night' and is partly courtroom based.
