La sua prima raccolta di essays s'intitola Works of Max Beerbohm (1896); le altre continuano nel titolo l'ironia: More (1899), Yet again (1909), And even now (1920). Incominciarono ad uscire sui periodici umoristici londinesi Pall Mall Budget e Pick-Me-Up: riguardano artisti, attori, scrittori, uomini politici, e vennero riunite dal B. in raccolte omogenee, con i titoli: Cancatures of 25 gentlemen (1896), Poets' Corner (1904), A book of caricatures (1907), The second childhood of John Bull (1911), 50 Caricatures (1913), A survey (1921), Rossetti and his cercle (1922), Things new and old (1923), Observations (1925).

She carried on several affairs with writers including Maugham, H.G. Wells, and especially with Ford Madox (Hueffer) Ford, and she served as the inspiration for several important characters in their novels.
