Description: 74 Un-numbered pages. There are 60 plates of which a half a dozen have some light marginal penciled notes, barely noticeable, by the previous owner. Rockwell Kent, (1882-1971) was an American artist best known for his signature, smooth style of landscape painting, Often cited as an early American modernist, Kent's work focuses on the otherworldly beauty of nature, influenced by Transcendentalism and the mysticism of writers such as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Rockwell Kent wrote the Introduction for this 1969 exhibit in which he describes appearing before a Congressional committee to urge the passage of a Fine Arts bill to establish a government Secretariat. Rep. Dunn of Pennsylvania wearing dark glasses addressing Mr. Kent said that when he was a boy of nine he was hit in the eye by a snowball and he lost the sight of that eye. When he was eighteen he lost the sight of the other in a wrestling match. He was totally blind but remembered the beauty of the mornings and of the sunsets. I remember how beautiful the world was. If the purpose this bill is to bring more beauty to people then I am for it. And it passed.
