Rackham's illustrations add to the mystery and suspense of Washington Irving's classic tale about early New York.

Original publisher's green cloth covered boards, with illustration and lettering pieces in gilt to the upper spine and publisher's vignette in blind centre of the rear cover; joints are rubbed; shelf wear to spine head and foot ends; rubbing to boards and board edges; minor soiling and marks to boards; corners bumped. Complete with 50 leaves of mounted colour plates plus frontispiece, all illustrations protected by tissue guard sheets with letterpress. With a date in ink to the front paste down, 16th December 1913 and small surface damage to the same paste down, looks as though someone has tried to erast an owner name or inscription. Else in very good condition.

Frontis and 50 superb colour plates, tissue-guarded and mounted on green card at rear of book, one pair of plates are on facing pages. 62 text pages. Green cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn, small split to top of spine. Some light marks to covers. Evidence of removal of a small label to front pastedown. Some light margins marks else contents clean. All plates present, one is lightly creased but the others are fine. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!
