Description: The book number above relates to three volumes from the Yeats family: "Reveries over Childhood and Youth" from William Butler Yeats; "Plates to accompany Reveries over childhood and youth by W. B. Yeats" and "Early Memories; some chapters of autobiography" by John Butler Yeats [father of W.B.]. All three are from the stable of the legendary Cuala Press a private press, started by Elizabeth Yeats. There is vivid and strong evidence in all three books of how her time with William Morris in London influenced her use of paper, print, font and decoration. "Reveries" is marked (by hand) number 56 of 425 copies published in 1915. "Early Memories" published in 1923 ("the second year of the Irish Free State") is one of five hundred copies printed. It has a preface by W.B. Yeats. Both of these books have some uncut pages. All three of these beautiful small books have board covers and cloth spines. All three have general handling and shelving wear to the covers and the corners. The slim volume of plates contains all the plates to accompany William Butler's "Reveries". The inside front and back covers and frontis and back papers have general marking and age related markings. All three spines are marked and worn. Inside, the pages are thick, thrillingly energetic and beautifully printed. The print is bold and fresh. The plates have foxing to the bottom rims. the black background of the 'memory harbour' plate is torn but the plate itself is not damaged. Some pages have foxing and handling marks, but in major generality the pages are unblemished by age or hand. These books may be owned with complete satisfaction, joy and pleasure. fk.
