Description: First edition, and only one. Printed by Carbery & Reed. "[A] subscription (or mug book) sold to the men included in the text. Unknown number of copies" [Bruccoli & Layman A10]. Limericks by Lardner illustrated with caricatures by various "regular cartoonists" of friends and/or associates, mostly from the sporting community. Includes sportswriter Charles Comiskey; golfer Chick Evans, Jr.; former Reds owner August Herrman; former White Sox manager Kid Gleason; American League founder and first president Ban Johnson; plus other business professionals, actors, Chicago politicians, etc. Small quarto (7.75 x 10.25") green suede over stiff paper covers lined in silk and stab-sewn with gold silk cord; front cover lettered in gilt; approximately 200 leaves printed on rectos only of deckle-edged thick-stock paper interleaved with tissue-guards; unpaginated. Fair at best with cover edges evidently trimmed and extensively worn but binding cord present, gilt lettering on front intact, and interior pages very good. With prospectus/order form laid in laying out the ground rules for this subscription-only publication: "Edition Deluxe/ Price $100/ The subscriber understands this amount/ covers all charges in connection with the public-/ cation. Author has permission to include a caricature drawing of subscriber, with verse, in the book." Quite scarce, especially so with prospectus.

Description: First edition. Bruccoli & Layman A-10. Very thick quarto with semi-stiff green suede covers tied togther with a silk cord. A collection of caricatures of friends and associates of Lardner separated by tissue guards. Quite scarce. A good copy with inevitable chips and wear to yapped edges of the suede covers. Spine darkened with age. Internally in very good condition. An unknown number of copies were produced.
