Description: np (72pp), 60 b&w illustrations. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Edward Ruscha's fifteenth artist book "Records" is a charming photographic inventory of thirty vinyl phonograph records (and their album cover graphics) from the artist's personal collection circa 1971. A most handsome example of the first and only edition (entry B15 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999" which is also cited on pages 198-201 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 105 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", page 105 of "From Fair to Fine 2", and page 226 of "From Fair to Fine 3") limited to two thousand unnumbered copies that was issued without a glassine wrapper showing some trivial sunning along the spine. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.

Ruscha, Edward. A FEW PALM TREES. (Heavy Industry Publications), (Hollywood, CA), 1971.

Price: US$2000.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: Signed first edition of Ruscha's fourteen spare, black and white photographs of California palms, each captioned with its home address. A FEW PALM TREES was one of three books Ruscha published in 1971 (the others were DUTCH DETAILS and RECORDS) and grew out of an unrealized idea for a book called SEVENTEEN HOLLYWOOD PALM TREES. It was followed the next year by his neon-bright COLORED PEOPLE, another plant photo series. Pressed for insight by Clive Phillpot, Ruscha said in 1998: "I guess at that time I was more involved in botanical phenomena [.] I thought, well, this is something I should maybe investigate." 7'' x 5.5''. Original glossy black wrappers. Edition of 3900. 14 black and white photographic illustrations. [64] pages, of which 34 are blank. Signed by Ruscha in pencil on front free endpaper. PROVENANCE: From the collection of longtime MIT Press editor Roger Conover, who published several books by and about Ruscha. Minimal edgewear.

Ruscha, Edward; McMillan, Jerry. RECORDS. (Heavy Industry Publications), (Hollywood, CA), 1971.

Price: US$3000.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: Signed first edition of these black and white photographs of 30 selected records and album covers from Ruscha's collection, photographed by his friend and fellow artist Jerry McMillan. Like Ruscha's previous books, RECORDS is concerned with words and texts, though the presentation of words "on" images here is distinct from Ruscha's previous documentation of words "in" images (Phillpot): shown against a blank white background, the printed texts on these album covers and records exist on circles and squares, objects alone without a landscape. Uncommon signed. 7'' x 5.5''. Original red embossed paper wrappers. 60 black and white plates. Edition of 2000 copies. Signed by Ruscha on front free endpaper. PROVENANCE: From the collection of longtime MIT Press editor Roger Conover, who published several books by and about Ruscha. Touches of edgewear, very slight foxing to fore-edge.Else bright and sharp.
