Enid Blyton. Real Fairies [True First Edition]. J. Saville & Co. Ltd., London, 1923.

Price: US$108.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Celebrating the 100th anniversary of this scarce publication; probably Blyton's second, third or fourth publication (as opposite the title page is a note of 'By the same Author' - Child Whispers [1922] and Responsive Games [1923]. Also previously published were a number of contributions to Teachers' World. This copy is a true First Edition, dated 1923, a small Hardback in clean light brown cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board and no dust jacket. Very small cloth puncture to spine but unusually the book is in VG + or, near- FINE condition. Consisting 55 pages of the author's poems on soft white paper - all, except 'Pretending' which was published previously in Punch magazine, are first appearances of the poems. The sewn binding is firm, nothing loose or cracking, clean throughout. There is no inscription but an unobtrusive, not easily visible, impressed address to the front free end-paper: Selwor, East Bay, Colchester. Selwor is Rowles backwards but there is no apparent link to the Blyton/children's book illustrator, Daphne Rowles. There is a little faint spotting to the top edges of some pages in the first half of the book. Clean end-papers. 30% price reduction now applied.
