With tales ranging from 1595-1953, Rascals in Paradise tells the stories of the Spanish explorer Doña Isabel Barreto who discovered the Solomon Islands, the French "nobleman-swindler" who founded a failed colony in Papua New Guniea, and the Chinese-Japanese military leader Koxinga who fiercely protected the Ming dynasty and "makes Captain Kidd look like an amateur," among others. Co-authored by two men who "can testify to the allure of the Pacific," the tales of Rascals in Paradise are united by their subjects' convictions that "some other part of the world held richer promise than their homeland" and who had "settled upon the Pacific as his area of escape.
