Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Tears to cloth to spine. Slight staining overall.

RALPH THE HEIR first appeared in book form in nineteen sixpenny parts published monthly by Strahan & Co. from January 1870 through July 1871. The three-volume Hurst & Blackett edition was published 6 April 1871. Strahan's one-volume edition included eleven of the eighteen illustrations by Fraser published in their earlier parts edition (all of them were included in Strahan's second one-volume edition). Sutherland, The Longman Companion to Victorian Fiction, 519. Sadleir 37 (p. 124). NCBEL III 883. Wolff did not have a copy of this edition. Professionally re-cased (spine, front and rear panels preserved) with new headbands and endpapers. Some foxing to frontispiece and first three and last four leaves, otherwise, the text is clean.
