Description: First Edition. Covers heavily scuffed with rubbed edges. Cover corner and tips fraying. No DJ. Hinges cracked but stitched binding is holding. No loose pages. Previous owner name in pencil and in ink on front free page: Alfred Watermire, Christmas, December 15, 1924. 4 years old. No other markings in book. Some pages soiled with little finger page turning marks. Illustrated superbly by Ethel Franklin Betts, a student of Howard Pyle (1853-1911). 8 full color plates of Bett's paintings.One page got stuck to another page (page 1) at the bottom edge spine area. No tearing in text nor illustrations.

Description: First edition. No page count. Illustrated by Ethel Franklin Betts. Stunningly beautiful full color, illustrations as well as some black and white illustrations combine with charming text for a remarkable children's book. Boards are extremely worn with eroded edges and corners and rubbed and scraped surfaces. Hinges cracked and text block is only barely still connected to spine. While the pages have some light soil in margins, they are overall bright with no foxing or discoloration. The gorgeous images are vivid, worthy of framing. Binding is very loose, corners bumped. Internally generally good, except two facing pages have a small place where they stuck together tore at the border. Lovely illustrations by Ethel Franklin Betts. One of the best examples of the Sunbonnet School (1900 - 1920). Betts was a student of Howard Pyle.
