Description: Number 43 of 200 (220) copies printed in red and black by C.R.Ashbee in his `Prayer Book' type on Batchelor handmade paper. Woodcut frontispiece by C.R.Ashbee. Limp vellum with green silk ties, lettered in gilt on spine, edges uncut. Covers a little splayed and handled. Neat ownership inscription. A very good copy. Critics have found little good to say about Ashbee's art-nouveau typefaces known as `Endeavour' and `Prayer Book''. However, this large dark letter looks well here, split by long and short lines of verse on the big page and by red used for notes and characters.

Boards good condition vellum boards with original green ties which are all present, the fore edges of the boards are bevelled. Page edges good condition top edge slightly darkened, fore and bottom edges uncut, all tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges fair condition strained but intact, strained to the gutter later in the volume. Paste downs good condition plain, ties visible underneath the paper on both paste downs. End papers good condition plain, some offsetting from the ties, the front end paper has rectangle of foxing to the centre from removal of a bookplate. Title good condition printed in red and black text. Pages good condition frontispiece by C.R.
