Description: Original lithograph. Black ink on white, unwatermarked, wove paper. 31.8 x 23.5 cm / 12.5 x 9-1/4 in. This version of the artist and his model--one of Picasso's most fruitful themes--appeared as the frontispiece of Fernand Mourlot's Picasso Lithographe IV. That was the final volume of Mourlot's original version of his catalogue raisonné on Picasso's lithographs. Mourlot was the lithographer for Picasso, Chagall, and many, many other modern masters. This print is M399 in the catalogue. The edition was 3000 copies. Like many of the original prints by Picasso, Chagall, and others that appeared in books by and about them, it is not signed in the stone. Its appearance in the book guaranteed its authenticity. This is, however, an absolutely original and well-documented print by one of the most influential and prolific artists in history. Condition is fine, with the slightest shadow, in glancing light, of a shallow crease along the right side from its having been bound in the original volume. This will be invisible when framed.
