Description: This first edition, first printing instructive and detailed manual, "Printing with the Handpress," by Lewis M. Allen, provides a comprehensive guide for the handpress enthusiast. Published by Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, this work is not only a testament to the mechanical process of printing but also an homage to the artistry of the craft. The book is in near fine condition with a pictorial printed cloth binding. Its pages are crisp and clear, with no markings or blemishes, indicating that the book has been meticulously maintained. The dust jacket, presented in a striking shade of orange, captures the spirit of traditional printing presses and the hands-on approach championed by Allen. While it shows signs of wear with some tears and chipping, it retains its structural integrity, doing justice to the robust content it encases. Complete with charming illustrations and blue accents that celebrate the art of printing, this book is a definitive manual for those passionate about preserving the time-honored tradition of handpress printing. Lewis M. Allen's expertise, gained from decades of practice, shines through in this accessible and engaging volume, making it an essential addition to the library of any printing aficionado or historian of the craft. The dust jacket's condition, while fair, reflects its journey and the hands it has passed through, adding character and history to this copy. As a collective piece, this book is both a functional guide and a collectible that treasures the venerable art of handcraftsmanship in printing.
