William Theodore Peters. Posies Out of Rings and Other Conceits [with original portrait of Peters]. John Lane - The Bodley Head, London, 1896.

Price: US$375.00 + shipping

Description: First edition. Signed and inscribed by Peters in Paris, 1897. With ownership signature above of Mary Kent Davey, Paris, December, 1896. Included is a pencil portrait on board labeled 'Wm. Theodore Peters' to reverse, with pencil sketch of Peters to front. Unsure of artist, whether it was a self-portrait by Peters, a sketch by Davey, or from another party, and whether it was modeled from life or from another image. Few photographs of Peters are known, and I can find none that match this one in particular. Boards rubbed and moderately soiled. Rubbing to corners with slight loss to cloth. Evidence of bookplate removed from front pastedown, with bookseller's ticket present below. Internally bright and fresh, with decorative title page designed by Patten Wilson. Portrait measures 6.15" x 4.45", with some chipping to corners and along top edge of reverse.
