Original brown paper boards with paper label on the front board and spine, both labels are clear and complete. Boards and pages are clean (except for small darkened rectangle at bottom of inside front board where a prior bookseller's label was), unmarked, bright, tightly bound and sharp cornered. Scarce, Out Of Print, Book. This, Ransom's first book, was completed during his military service in the First World War, where he served as an artillery officer in France. Later in life, he was an educator, scholar, literary critic, poet, essayist and editor, and was considered to be a founder of the New Criticism school of literary criticism.

Ransom's first book consisting of poems written while he was a cadet and later an officer in in World War I. The dustwrapper is complete but for slight loss along each flap fold and a vertical 2-1/2" chip along the spine edge and rear panel that is no wider than 1/4". Copies in any decent dustwrapper are virtually unknown. Fine in a Very Good or better dustwrapper
