Description: First edition, first issue. BAL 8729. Boston imprint only on title-page. In a custom contemporary half morocco binding by Stikeman and Company. Very good plus: fading to spine, wear and abrasion at the extremities. Faint scattered foxing and soiling within. Green morocco over marbled boards with gilt rules, marbled endsheets, spine lettering, raised bands, gilt top edge. Though Holmes had earlier published broadsides, chapbooks and made anthology appearances, this is his first book. This example is extra-illustrated: a tipped-in, tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of the poet has been bound in.
