Description: Ten volumes. 8vo. 19th century quarter maroon morocco over cream linen boards, spines with raised bands, gilt lettered direct to two panels and richly decorated to the others, endpaper and all edges marbled. Frontispiece portrait to volume I. Foxing to the front and rear of each volume, the frontispiece with a damp stain to the lower edge (not affecting any other leaves), a few mild rubs, a very good set overall.

Volume I has a couple of inch-long tears to the rear joint, volume II has a small tear at the rear joint near the head of the spine, whilst volume IV has a small tear in the calf to the front joint. Eight octavo volumes (9 3/16 x 5 7/8 inches; 234 x 148 mm). With woodcuts by J. Thurston, after W.H. Pyne and P.J. Loutherbourg. Includes Rowe's life of the poet. Each play is separately paged, and selected observations are appended. Contemporary calf by Taylor & Hessey (stamp-signed in gilt on fore-edge of front cover of each volume). Covers elaborately paneled in gilt and blind, spines elaborately tooled in gilt and blind and lettered in gilt in compartments, board edges and turn-ins decoratively tooled in gilt, marbled edges and endpapers.
