First edition, first issue. Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser (August 27, 1871 December 28, 1945) was an American novelist and journalist. He pioneered the naturalist school and is known for portraying characters whose value lies not in their moral code, but in their persistence against all obstacles, and literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature than tales of choice and agency. Condition: Corners bumped and slightly chipped, spine heal rubbed, lightly soiled else about very good lacking jacket.

A very good, bright copy with some light wear to the spine tips. The text is very good and clean. The front and rear panels of the jacket are present but the spine is lacking. The blank rear panel lacks a large section at the bottom. Both flaps are present. Scarce in the jacket.

Description: Very good book, no dust jacked. Dated Nov. 13, 1916, 2nd state. Green paper covered boards with tan cloth covered spine. Black text on front panel. Green text on tan label on spine. Boards are stained in several places. Spine is sunned. Upper and lower edges at head and tail of board spine are chipped and fraying. Rub throughs on board panels at lower edges adjacent to spine, fore-edge corner tips and edges along fore-edges especially the front fore-edge edge near the upper and lower corners. Upper outer page edges are tinted and even. Side and lower page edges are uneven and several are unopened. Gutter is cracked at title page. A few light internal smudges but book is overall internally clean. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition description.
