Yellow dust jacket with color pictorial front and rear panels; dj rubbed and soiled, shallow chipping at spine head and at adjacent panel corners, moisture stain and slight chipping at spine heel, minor chip at spine center left, 2.5cm tear at head of front flap fold, foxing/toning to both front and rear flaps, $1.50 price at front flap's top right; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Brown cloth with color pictorial paste-on decorating front board; light bumping at spine ends, strong bumping at front board's top right, mild moisture staining at top of rear board. Toning and foxing to edges with some staining to fore-edge as well; foxing/toning to b/w pictorial endpapers; occasional foxing spots and some scattered light stains to interior pages which, overall, remain quite clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a good+ dust jacket. B/w illustrations (but no color plates) throughout by John R. Neill mostly inset amongst text but some as full-page. The dj's rear flap cites PIRATES IN OZ as the twenty-fourth book in the Oz series which, of course, was started by L. Frank Baum in 1900 with the publication of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and continued after Baum's death by Ruth Plumly Thompson starting in 1921 with "The Royal Book of Oz."

Description: This 1931 FIRST edition book is in near fine condition with clean interior pages and a bright green cloth cover with a color plate on the front of a pirate and a young boy on a ship's ladder. There is a little color loss on the sky part of the illustration- not detracting from the full color plate. The edges and corners are fine. The book has 2 small handwritten numbers on the spine and on the top corner of the first end paper. There are 12 color plates. There no dust jacket. The book ownership place has a neatly written name on it. Meets all pointsof issue for a first edition (Hanff and Greene). A beautiful copy! Picture available upon request.
