George Cruikshank.. Phrenological Illustrations. Or, An Artists View of the Craniological System of Doctors Gall and Spurzheim.. George Cruikshank., 1826.

Price: US$230.76 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Vignette title page + 2 sided leaf of descriptions of the plates before the plates and 6 etched copper plates each with 5 images printed single side only. In original marbled paper boards, but these detached and lacking the spine, paper label with title on the top board. Some foxing mainly to edges inwards, each plate with tissue guards as issued a near very good complete set. Oblong folio. Rare. *George Cruikshank published this and his Illustrations of Time in 1826/7, in this similar format. And they were his own attempts at self publishing. They were to be sold by old chums J. Robins & S. Knights and also G. Humphrey, nephew of Hannah. Interesting comical scenes inc one of a Whitbread pub with the barmaid pulling pints with pumps (an invention I thought was much, much later?) A helpful addition for any ambitious person who wishes to get "ahead" in life. A book insanely "ahead" of its time.
