Caslon Old Face type, in an edition limited to 425 numbered copies on English hand-made paper (Chanticleer 43). Lacking the paper dust jacket, else a tight, bright, and unmarred copy. Also illustrated by Gibbings with six small engravings, with which Coppard was delighted.compared with his earlier Golden Cockerel books, its production was magnificent (Cave, History of the Golden Cockerel Press, Oak Knoll, 2003, p.74). Many of the poems were written to or for Gay Taylor, with whom the poet had a long-running affair. The Golden Cockerel Press was transformed under Gibbings into a fine press famous for its illustrated books, as well as the achievements of writers like Coppard, H.E. Bates, and T. E. Dramatic pink and yellow patterned batik paper to boards, still bright and fresh. With original dustwrapper, edgeworn and with loss at spine separating it into two halves, but protected in clear removable plastic sleeve and as such entirely useable. Age-browning and foxing to dustwrapper, with darkening to dustwrapper spine. 8vo (15.2 x 23.5cm). Top edges trimmed and darkened, other edges untrimmed. Hinges sound. A little mild browning to pastedowns. Printed on laid paper. No ownership marks. With six engravings by Robert Gibbings, one of which is reprinted on the dustwrapper. Title page with initial in red.
