August 1986 in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire) war ein englischer Bildhauer und Zeichner. Moore ist bekannt für seine großen, abstrakten Skulpturen, die weltweit ausgestellt sind. Die Arbeiten sind meist Abstraktionen des menschlichen Körpers, typischerweise als Mutter und Kind" oder als ruhende Figur". Von einer kurzen Periode in den 1950er Jahren abgesehen, in der Moore Familiengruppen schuf, stellt Moore überwiegend Frauenfiguren dar. Leben - Familie und Frühe Jahre: Moore wurde in Castleford, West Yorkshire, Großbritannien als siebtes von insgesamt acht Kindern des Ehepaares Raymond Spencer Moore und Mary Baker, am 30. Juli 1898, geboren. Sein Vater war Angestellter in einem Bergwerk und legte Wert auf eine gute Ausbildung seiner Kinder, um zu verhindern, dass eines seiner Kinder gleichfalls im Bergwerk zu arbeiten habe. Moore hatte schon mit 11 Jahren beschlossen, Bildhauer zu werden. Mit Unterstützung seines Kunstlehrers begann er frühzeitig in Ton zu modellieren und Holz zu behauen. Seine Eltern waren gegen eine Karriere als Bildhauer, da dies für sie körperliche Arbeit war. Im Jahre 1917, kurz nach seinem 18. Geburtstag, wurde Moore zum Militärdienst eingezogen. Er war der jüngste in seinem Regiment, den Civil Service Rifles" und nahm teil an der Schlacht von Cambrai, wo er während eines Gasangriffs verletzt wurde. Er erholte sich rasch, war aber für den Rest des Ersten Weltkrieges nicht mehr an aktiven Kämpfen beteiligt. Im Gegensatz zu den Erfahrungen vieler seiner Zeitgenossen erlitt Moore kein Trauma; Moore selber sagte über diese Zeit: für mich verging der Krieg in einem romantischen Dunst ich versuchte, ein Held zu sein (for me the war passed in a romantic haze of trying to be a hero)". Nach dem Krieg erhielt Moore als Kriegsteilnehmer ein Stipendium, um sein Studium fortzusetzen. 1919 wurde Moore der erste Student der Leeds School of Art, der Bildhauerei studieren wollte seine Kunsthochschule musste für ihn als erstes ein geeignetes Atelier einrichten. Kunsthochschule: Moore lernte während seiner Zeit an der Leeds School of Art Barbara Hepworth kennen und begann mit ihr eine Freundschaft, die viele Jahre überdauern sollte. Durch Michael Sadler, den Vizekanzler an der Leeds School of Art wurde er frühzeitig mit den Bildhauerarbeiten afrikanischer Volksstämme konfrontiert. 1921 erhielt Moore ein Stipendium, um seine Ausbildung am Royal College of Art in London fortzusetzen, wo Hepworth seit einem Jahr bereits studierte. London bot ihm die Gelegenheit, sich weiter mit afrikanischen Arbeiten zu beschäftigen. Er verbrachte viel Zeit im Victoria and Albert Museum und dem Britischen Museum, um sich mit den Sammlungen dort auseinanderzusetzen. Sowohl Moores als auch Hepworth frühe Arbeiten entsprechen dem traditionellen Kunstunterricht, bei dem sich vor allem Moore zunehmend unwohl fühlte. Angeregt durch die afrikanischen Skulpturen und unter dem Einfluss von Bildhauern wie Constantin Brâncusi, Jacob Epstein und Frank Dobson begann er direkt sein Material zu bearbeiten, Unregelmäßigkeiten des Materials und die Bearbeitungsspuren in seiner Bildhauerei einzubeziehen. Bei seinen Kunstprofessoren traf diese Arbeitsweise auf wenig Unterstützung. Eine von Derwent Wood, dem Professor für Bildhauerei am Royal College of Art, gestellte Aufgabe sah vor, das Marmorrelief die Jungfrau mit dem Kind" von Roselli erst in Ton nachzuarbeiten und es dann durch eine mechanische Übertragungsmethode in Marmor abzubilden. Moore arbeitete das Modell direkt in Marmor nach und ahmte dabei sogar auf der Oberfläche die Merkmale nach, die die mechanische Übertragungsform hinterlassen hätte. 1924 wurde Moore mit einem sechsmonatigen Reisestipendium ausgezeichnet, das es ihm ermöglichte, in Norditalien die Arbeiten von Michelangelo, Giotto und anderen Meistern zu studieren. In den späteren Jahren erklärte Moore oft, vor allem die Begegnung mit Michelangelos Arbeiten habe ihn maßgeblich beeinflusst. Leben in Hampstead: Nach der Rückkehr nach London begann Moore selbst, am Royal College of Art zu unterrichten. Seine Unterrichtspflichten verlangten von ihm nur, zwei Tage pro Woche im College anwesend zu sein, so dass ihm ausreichend Zeit für seine eigenen Arbeiten zur Verfügung stand. Im Juli 1929 heiratete er Irina Radetsky, eine Kunststudentin des Royal College of Art, die sich auf Malerei spezialisierte. Sie war am 26. März 1907 in Kiew als Tochter russisch-polnischer Eltern auf die Welt gekommen. Ihr Vater verschwand in den Wirren der Russischen Revolution, ihre Mutter floh nach Paris, wo sie wenig später einen britischen Offizier heiratete. Irina folgte ihr ein Jahr später und besuchte in Paris die Schule bis zu ihrem 16. Lebensjahr. Danach lebte sie bei Verwandten ihres Stiefvaters in Buckinghamshire. Irina, die von einer ruhigen und zurückhaltenden Wesensart war, war das von Moore bevorzugte Modell. Kurz nach der Hochzeit bezogen Henry und Irina Moore ein Studio im Londoner Stadtteil Hampstead, wo sich bereits eine ganze Reihe von Künstlern angesiedelt hatten, die zur damaligen Avantgarde zählten. Kurz nach ihnen zog auch Barbara Hepworth mit ihrem Lebensgefährten und späterem Ehemann Ben Nicholson in ihre Nähe. Auch Naum Gabo und der Kunstkritiker Herbert Read lebten in der unmittelbaren Umgebung. Die Nähe zu Kollegen war für Henry Moore künstlerisch fruchtbar, und Read publizierte regelmäßig darüber, so dass Moore immer stärker von der britischen Öffentlichkeit wahrgenommen wurde. In den frühen 1930er Jahren wurde Moore zum Leiter des Bildhauerei-Bereichs an der Chelsea School of Art berufen. Parallel zu den Arbeiten von Barbara Hepworth wurden auch Moores Arbeiten zunehmend abstrakter. Perls,(1910-1975), after having worked at their mother's Galerie Kate Perls in Paris. Following his marriage to Amelia Blumenthal of Philadelphia in 1940 , Klaus and Amelia B. Perls jointly ran the gallery. They specialized in modern French painting while Franz established the Frank Perls Gallery in Beverly Hills.He originally dealt in works by Maurice Utrillo, Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy that his mother sent from Paris, until the Nazi occupation. When she was forced to flee France, he began dealing in now little known contemporary American artists, including Darrel Austin, and in Mexican and South American art such as Mario Carreno. After the war, Klaus again dealt in French art from the School of Paris.Artists in the Perls' stable included Rouault, Picasso, Léger, Derain, Dufy, Matisse, Modigliani, Pascin, Soutine and Vlaminck. Biographisches:Jakob Eisenscher wurde 1896 in Czernowitz, Bukowina, geboren. Als junger Mann besuchte Eisenscher die Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien. Eisenscher wanderte in den frühen 1930er Jahren nach Frankreich aus. Er arbeitete fünf Jahre lang in Paris, wobei er stark von den Werken von Pablo Picasso und Georges Braque beeinflusst wurde (Kubismus). 1935 wanderte Eisenscher nach Israel aus. Er studierte an der Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design und lehrte dort von 1952-67. Dort arbeitete Eisenscher mit vielen israelischen Künstlern zusammen. Zu Beginn seiner Karriere fertigte Eisenscher Zeichnungen, Holzschnitte und figurative Gemälde an. Beeinflusst vom deutschen Expressionismus, begann Eisenscher schließlich, Porträts und figurative Gemälde zu schaffen. In den 1950er Jahren interessierte er sich für die Malerei kubanischer Landschaften, die für ihn zu einem Schwerpunkt wurden. Zu seinen Gemälden gehörten auch Visionen von den jüdischen "Schtetls" in Osteuropa, Märkte, Synagogen und Szenen aus Israel und seinen Menschen.

Consuelo wurde in Rio de Janeiro durch Nina Verchinina und Tatjana Leskova ausgebildet und debütierte dort am Teatro Municipal. Ab 1953 tanzte sie beim Ensemble des "Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas" bis zu dessen Auflösung 1958. Danach war sie Ballettlehrerin in Serge Golovines Ensemble in Genf und gründete dort später eine eigene Tanzschule. Polajenko war Schüler von Aanatole Vilzak in New York und debütierte in Musicals. 1948 ging er nach Europa und wurde Mitglied des Ballet des Champs Elysée. Ab 1951 tanzte er in Petits Company und an der Metropolitan Opera in New York etc. Von 1956-62 war er Principal des "Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas". Die Aufnahme stammt aus dem berühmten Pariser Atelier Lipnitzkis (manche Biographen geben als Geburtsort auch Odessa an). Er kam 1921 nach Paris und eröffnete sein erstes Studio mit Hilfe des Modeschöpfers Paul Poiret, der ihm seine Klientel zuführte. Lipnitzki photographierte für die großen Modehäuser wie Heim, Schiaparelli, Chanel etc., am Theater, beim Ballett, in Künstlerateliers und bei gesellschaftlichen Ereignissen. Berühmt sind seine zahlreichen Portraits der Größen der Pariser Gesellschaft, wie z.B. Josephine Baker, Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Igor Strawinski, Serge Lifar u.v.a. The prints were commissioned by Ambroise Vollard in 1925 to illustrate André Suarès' play, Hélène chez Archimède; they were left unpublished after Vollard's death in 1939. One of the most important dealers in French contemporary art at the beginning of the twentieth century, Vollard provided support and exposure to many then-unknown artists: Paul Cézanne; Aristide Maillol; Pierre-Auguste Renoir; Louis Valtat; André Derain; Georges Rouault; Paul Gauguin, and Vincent van Gogh. After 1994 Vollard began to directly commission print series from the best artists of the day, intended as limited editions for collectors. He was also active in publishing illustrated books for bibliophiles; he promoted twenty-two such projects between 1900 and 1939. While conceived in 1925, the present project was not brought to fruition until 1955. The first fascicle contains the folded single-sheet menu for a dinner at the Nouveau Cercle de la Rue Royale, 288 boulevard Saint-Germain, held on 22 October 1955 (Pouilly-Fuissé 1952; Château Sigognac 1947; Champagne brut Comte de Fersen -- oh my!). The front and back of the menu are illustrated with the two in-text woodcuts which appear at the opening and close of the play. This would appear to be a rare, ephemeral item. We have located only one other portfolio offered for sale which notes the menu, and it does not appear in any of the library descriptions of Hélène chez Archimède we have been able to survey online. Cette uvre d'art littéralement « graphique » constitue un superbe maillon polychrome de la chaîne épistolaire qui lia le plus grand artiste du XXe siècle à son principal mécène. *** Malgré son intense correspondance, les lettres entièrement autographes de Picasso sont d'une très grande rareté, comme le souligne Laurence Madeline dans l'article qu'elle consacre à cette confidentielle activité de l'immense artiste : « L'inertie paralysant Picasso, qui préfère son travail d'artiste à celui de secrétaire, rend plus essentielles et plus touchantes les lettres qu'il se plaît à rédiger » (in « Picasso épistolier », L'Herne, n° 106). Installé sur les hauteurs de Cannes, le peintre est en effet épaulé par son fidèle secrétaire et ami d'enfance Jaume Sabartés. Le banquier et collectionneur Max Pellequer fut présenté à Picasso en 1914 par son oncle par alliance André Level. Il sera rapidement l'un de ses plus importants collectionneurs et, plus tard, son conseiller financier pendant plus de 30 ans. L'intérêt de Pellequer pour les uvres de Picasso commence dès les années 1910, notamment par le bouffon en bronze qu'il acquiert auprès d'Ambroise Vollard. (22 x 30 in.) After his move to Paris, Picasso became inspired by the classical art filling the many museums of the city and set his sights on recreating scenes from Greek and Roman mythology in his printmaking. The present work is one of the many modern interpretations of a classical myth by Picasso. 'Bacchanale' comes from the Latin word 'bacchanalia' which were ancient festivals to honour Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of wine and festivity, and were often occasions of drunken revelry. The deep-set eyes of this Bacchus figure and the Breton top he wears suggest Picasso is in fact projecting his own likeness into this mischievous mythological figure as a reflection of Picasso's self-image. In this scene, Picasso presents us with a more sedate version of a bacchanale, instead of the usual lively, chaotic depiction of Bacchus and his revelers, the three figures appear almost melancholic in pose and expression which is also echoed in the calm serene colour pallet.

The couple met during the summer of 1952 whilst Roque was working at Georges and Suzanne Ramié's Madoura pottery works in Vallauris, the studio where Picasso made his ceramics in the South of France. The couples love endured until the artist's death in 1973, Picasso adored Jacqueline so much so that for seventeen of the twenty years the couple spent together - the longest relationship of Picasso's life - Roque was the only female Picasso painted. When Picasso embarked on his late, great period, his biographer John Richardson succinctly defined and characterised as 'l'époque Jacqueline.' In this lithograph, Picasso bestows Roque with an elegant, sphinx-like appearance. The straight line of the nose which extends directly from the forehead to the tip is particularly evocative of these ancient Egyptian sculptures, as well as in the calm gaze in her characteristically almond-shaped eyes.
