A photocopy of 'The Lady of Shallot' 1833 is inserted.

Description: Octavo, original boards now somewhat worn,joints cracked, wholly uncut and with the errata leaf and the ads, and with the error "carcanet" for "coronet" on page 72. Preserved in brown quarter morocco gilt slip case. Tennyson was but 21 years of age when he published this work It contains some truly remarkable poetry: "Recollections Of The Arabian Nights;" "The Sleeping Beauty;" "Claribel;" and many others of great beauty and polish. Description: First edition, mixed state. Probably later papercovered boards reproducing the originals (which nevertheless show considerable age), with later paper spine label. Errata page is present, but lacks the page of ads; page 91 misnumbered as 19 (first state), "carcanet" spelled correctly (second state); all variant points were changed at the printer's before the book was issued. Modest wear to the spine ends, a handsome, very good plus copy. Tennyson's first solely authored book, preceded by two jointly authored volumes.

Description: A lovely copy of the first edition but a later and corrected copy. 12mo - [iv], 154 pages with two page publisher's catalogue at the rear. Also, bound in at the rear are the original yellow wrappers. Now beautifully bound by Riviere & Son with their stamped name to the foot of the inner front panel at the dentelle. Bound in bright blue crushed morocco with multiple concentric gold borders with gold blossoms at the inner corners. There are more gold borders to the interior boards with lovely silk moirÈ doublures and endpapers. Top edge gilt, remaining edges untrimmed. Bookplate to front fly. Interior hinges showing some wear but the book remains very strong. Two short tears to front endpaper. A really lovely copy of this very early Tennyson collection. Near Fine.

Description: First edition. Superbly bound c. 1900 by Bradsteet's of New York (signed with an ink pallet on front endleaf) in full brown morocco with elaborate bold gilt blocked floral and quatrefoil centerpiece design on both covers, elaborate gilt-tooled spine. The name "Dr. Henry M. Garsson" appears in gilt at the bottom right front cover, gilt dentelles. First issue point of p.91 mis-numbered as "19." Also with the scarce errata leaf and even scarcer two-page advertisement at end. "Carcanet" is spelled correctly (second state point). This is Tennyson's first regularly published book. Bradstreet's was a very well-respected binder and received an 'honorable mention' in de Bois's "Historical Essay on Art of Bookbinding" (1883)/ Henry Garsson founded a munitions contracting business in 1941, and, interesting, after the war, was found guilty of defrauding the U. S. government and was imprisoned. Fine.
