Titmarsh, M. A., pseudonym for William Makepeace Thackeray. Our Street. Chapman and Hall, London, 1848.

Price: US$750.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: 8vo, 54, [2] pp. (7.5 by 5.5".) With 16 hand-colored plates with illustrations by Thackeray. With bookplate of Henry Van Duzer, the Thackeray scholar and bibliographer who wrote "The Thackeray Library", the standard reference on Thackeray. Housed in a stunning custom full morocco box which functions similar to a type of cigar box in which the top half or lid is pulled away. In this case it reveals an inner lining of leather. Within this box the book is contained in a custom folio. The publisher's boards, with illustrated paper pasted onto the boards, has considerable dust soilage, but it is all present and seldom encountered fully preserved as it is with this copy. The folio that acts as the first outer lining has closed tears along edges and rubbing with losses to the green cloth. One edge (the bottom side) is missing. Still, it still functions as a protective layer and is an attractive feature. The leather box itself has a strip of sunned area on the front board but is otherwise in fine condition. The book itself has a few fox marks but overall is clean and handsome. In sum, this is a singular copy, both because of the entire package and because of its provenance. Full Morocco Box housing book with publisher's pastedown paper over boards
