Ink signature of previous owner's name, William Stebbing. Believed to be the Victorian writer and journalist.

Description: First Edition. One of an edition limited to only fifty unnumbered copies printed on large paper. PublisherÕs presentation copy, inscribed on the half title: ÒThomas Russell, Esq. with the publisherÕs compliments.Ó With the recipientÕs bookplate. An early version of Remorse, edited with notes from a manuscript discovered by Richard H. Shepherd. Bound in full red gilt-stamped tooled morocco, with the spine decorated in gilt with raised bands and inner gilt dentelles with marbled endpapers. An attractive copy with a touch of discoloration to the upper corners of the first few and last pages, apparently from a dampstain to the top outer corner which is barely visible to the exterior.
