Description: 32 by 25 cms. no pagination, (186 pp) illustrated with drawings, with some notes by Anne Isabella Thackeray. In thick, dark blue, bevelled boards, with black and gilt stamped title and lining to spine and front board, a.e.g. some minor scuffing to top right front board edge, and spine extremities. this book was originally bound with gutta-percha which disintegrates over time. This copy has been professionally rebound within the original boards and endpapers and is now a tight copy ready for many more years of life. There is no visible indication of this rebind. The illustrations, a few of which were tinted are charming and delightful.

Two coloured plates, though most black and white, with red overprinting in the 'Playing Cards' section. This copy hasn't yet fully suffered the binding issue common to this edition, though pages are beginning to loosen. Apart from that, all in VG internal order and bar a little toning, pages are remarkably clean. Endpapers more heavily toned and foxed. Gilt to top edge of block. In original quarter leather with printed paper covered boards. These rather grubby and marked and showing some wear to edges and corners. Gilt titling to spine, worn top and bottom. Scarce in original form. Folio. Unpaginated.

Boards are a little toned and soiled but could be professionally cleaned. Spine is rubbed at the edges and is bumped and cracked at head & foot. Though end papers are toned, there is very little toning within, just the odd smattering of foxing to otherwise clean pages. This is a super copy.

Description: Beautiful and charming folio sized book with original decorative paper covered boards. Leather spine has crisp title lettering, although it is somewhat worn down the hinges and at the spine ends with a little loss of the leather. The paper covered boards have knocking and wear at the corner tips and some sun discolouration.There are no inscriptions and the pages look remarkably clean and bright throughout, albeit with some toning to the prelim pages and occasional mild to moderate foxing sporadically throughout. Overall though the book is in lovely presentable condition despite these few flaws comensurate with the age of the book.
