"In this classic of the 1960s, Ken Kesey's hero is Randle Patrick McMurphy, a boisterous, brawling, fun-loving rebel who swaggers into the world of a mental hospital and takes over. A lusty, life-affirming fighter, McMurphy rallies the other patients around him by challenging the dictatorship of Nurse Ratched. He promotes gambling in the ward, smuggles in wine and women, and openly defies the rules at every turn. But this defiance, which starts as a sport, soon develops into a grim struggle, an all-out war between two relentless opponents: Nurse Ratched, back by the full power of authority, and McMurphy, who has only his own indomitable will. What happens when Nurse Ratched uses her ultimate weapon against McMurphy provides the story's shocking climax. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall

Condition: Near Fine

Description: A beautiful full black leather Collector's Edition of the late Ken Kesey's best known work and his first book, signed by the author on the signature page in bright purple, gold and green metallic paint -- one of the most elaborate signatures we have seen in the Easton Press edition [and the camera does not do it justice]. Very scarce in the signed Easton edition, the book has gold gilt cover designs and page edges, moire silk endpapers and bound-in silk bookmark. The book, including the gold gilt, is in fine condition but for what appears to be a minor repair, the reattachment of the glassine sheet that protects the metallic signature. Includes the Publisher's Note and Certificate of Authenticity from Easton Press. A wonderful copy. In 1975, the book was made into a very successful major motion picture starring Jack Nicholson, considered by many to be one of the best films in motion picture history.
