Description: Printed September 1919 statement on the copyright page. This book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends, corners and spine joints of the book cover have some light bumping, rubbing and wear. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a one inch crack to the top rear inner hinge that has been professionally repaired. There is a previous owner's inked name and date on the front endpaper. "Makaloa (Cyperus laevigatus) is a native sedge that was traditional used in Hawaii I to make moena makaloa, finely plaited mats treasured in Hawaii I. These treasured mats were a specialty of one particular island, Nii Ihau. As families intermarried, this practice established new centers elsewhere. Before this practice went dormant back in the late 1800s, it presence was found on Nii Ihau, Kauai I, and on the northern tip of Oahu in Mokulei Ia." (Pihemanu Kuaihelani makaloa project)

Perforated stamp on title page marking the book as "Not for Sale: Advance Copy for Review." (Sisson & Martens 102) (BAL 11981). Jack London (1876-1916) was one of the first American authors to gain international fame and accumulate wealth from his writing. Despite his popularity, London never received any literary awards for his work. London is remembered today through retellings of his stories on film and television, most recently in a movie adaptation of The Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford.
