Privately owned copy (by kids, of all people!), with all first edition points (Younger) Wear to all extremities, including corners, edges and spine caps, with a small 1/2" x 1/4" chip missing from top, and a tiny hole to mid-spine. Previous owner's inscription and (later) date to front free endpaper. Several penciled prices to half-title. Closed KidsPaw closed tears 1" and 1/2", (respectively) to bottom of two pages, and one small smudge. Nice, solid copy, with exterior a bit kidded up, of one of the six now-banned Dr. Seuss titles, this one for its portrayal of The "Nazzim of Bazzim" a human of apparent Middle-Eastern origin, mounted upon a Camelid Dromedary called a Spazzim.

Meets the first state requirement of 10 titles listed on rear jacket panel from "Horton Hears a Who!" to "Mulberry Street." Price is clipped but "$2.95" in pencil (faded and obviously old) is written below the clipped corner. This is virtually certain to mean the dust jacket is the first state, with the $2.50 price having been clipped by the bookseller and $2.95 (which was printed on the later second state dust jacket) added by them in pencil. A very attractive copy of the first edition.

The top 4 inches of the spine cover, with title, is loose but still firmly attached and easily reparable. There are 3 scratches at the top of the front cover, and one at the bottom. The pages are clean and unmarked with the exception of slight rust marks from two paper clips. The binding is strong, with all pages firmly attached, and the pages are clean, unmarked, and the corners are sharp. Book club edition has no lists of earlier Seuss books. You will notice that my book descriptions are not generic, saying "may have." certain conditions. All descriptions are written with actual book in hand.

Description: Color pictorial boards. Small folio. Matching pictorial dust jacket. First edition of this scarce Seuss title with all of the points listed in Younger & Hirsch ($2.50 price on flap and ten titles listed on rear jacket panel from Mulberry Street to Horton Hears a Who! In this take on the genre of alphabet book, Seuss presents, instead of the twenty-six letters of the conventional English alphabet, twenty additional letters that purportedly follow them. This book was one of six titles "withdrawn" by the Seuss Foundation in 2021. A good copy with some chipping to the spine tips and some wear along the edges. There is an owner's name on the flyleaf else the text is very good with some light spotting to a few pages but no other markings. The jacket is good with some chips and closed tears along the top and bottom edges and two small pieces missing from the top and bottom of the spine. The front flap is unclipped with the 250/250 price intact.

Description: VERY GOOD PLUS First Edition, second state according to the Younger and Hirsch Dr. Seuss Guide (which I own). This is one of the recently "BANNED SIX" Dr. Seuss books in exceptional condition! The VERY GOOD PLUS jacket has light rubbing and a few tiny chips/tears. It is NOT price-clipped. It meets all of the points of the first printing, EXCEPT for the price of 295/295 on the front flap. That is the ONLY difference between the first and second state. The very good book has light wear to the corner/spine ends and a light crease in the middle of the spine (looks like a binding error). There is NO WRITING, NO TEARS and NO remainder mark! The pages are very clean and show just the lightest of handling with two very light (and very small) corner folds. There is the slightest rubbing/color lift near the gutter on the bright turquoise facing pages. NOT PERFECT, but certainly a very good copy of this out-of-print book!

Blank endpaper towards rear has 3 small thin tone stains. Original and attractive DJ with all first printing points; $2.50 price clipped. This DJ has been salvaged from a busted first edition, first printing and married to this copy. As for this book, the last date on copyright page is 1955. The key to all first printings of this title is the rear free endpaper verso that lists other books by Dr. Seuss. The first printing of this title lists only ten books in this order from top to bottom: horton hears a who/scrambled eggs super/if i ran the zoo/bartholomew and the oobleck/thidwick/mcelligot's pool/horton hatches the egg/king's stilts/500 hats/mulberry street. Any other titles listed on this page indicate a later printing. So despite the back panel listing only ten titles, or the back of the DJ listing only ten titles, it is the other books by Seuss page located on the rear free endpaper verso that confirms a first printing. Other books by Seuss page in this copy references Sneetches, which is a 1961 Seuss title; and latest published title of listed titles; hence this is a 1961 copy despite its 1955 copyright page; and only 10 titles listed on back cover. This DJ is attractive and bright with a couple of chips, closed edge tears, light scuffing and rubbing. An attractive, desirable, discontinued Dr. Seuss title.
