Description: Royal 8vo. Black cloth covers with raised red and gilt lettering and decorations to the front panel. This is the second and expanded edition of Genthe's classic volume of photographs of old Chinatown. 208 pp. Text by Will Irwin. A most handsome copy with just some very minor corner wear. Internally fine. An important volume in the canon of early 20th century photography, noted (in the first printing) by Parr & Badger's seminal work The Photobook Vol. One. This copy has been INSCRIBED by Genthe and dated in 1915 to "Miss Esther Cleveland - so that she may know what the real Chinatown looked like when she was the new un - with __ wish fron Arnold Genthe". It is unknown whether the inscribee in this case was actually the daughter of President Grover Cleveland or not.
