It was banned in Boston as salacious; more recently it was adapted into the film "There Will Be Blood." This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First (Trade) Edition; as with several of his books, Sinclair had self-published. Maroon cloth binding with yellow oil well and title on the front cover; yellow lettering on the spine. Clean text; 527 pages; yellow topstain. Small bookplate and previous-owner signature on paste-down and FFEP. Mild rubbing at the foot of the spine. Lacking the dustjacket. A solid copy, surprisingly uncommon. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.

Book is tight, square, particularly sharp-cornered and free of markings or flaws inside and out. Near Fine. With the very scarce original Dust Jacket, unclipped, showing original price of $2.50. Fully intact with no sunning but does have multiple closed tears, small piece missing from top of crease on front flap. Close to VG but certainly Good or Good+. Advertisement for other Boni books on rear. Stated as 1927 with no other printings listed, hence First Edition, First State.
