This work is comprised of work discovered among the author's effects after his death. With an introduction by Edmund Gosse, poet, author and critic. Includes two folding plates, facsimiles of Swinburn's 'Memorial Verses on the Death of Richard Burton', the poets hand. Missing the original slipcase. In a quarter vellum binding. Externally smart. Marks to the spine, as to be expected with vellum. Rubbing to the spine, and to the extremities. Agetoning to the foredge and to the bottomedge. Front hinge is starting. Offsetting to the front pastedown, alongside a small tide mark, towards the hinge. 'Van Gelder Holland' embossed on the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean. Title printed in red and black, two folding facsimiles of the manuscript of Swinburne's poem "Memorial Verses on the Death of Richard Burton". 8vo. [241 x 165 x 18 mm]. 77pp. Bound in 1926 by E.K.S. (signed with initials and dated in gilt on the rear turn-in) in green goatskin, the covers tooled in gilt with a fillet border surrounded by a repeated red onlaid rose and red onlaid roundel, and fillet panel enclosing a repeated red onlaid rose. The spine lettered upwards in gilt between two bands, with a red onlaid rose at the head and foot, the edges of the boards and turn-ins tooled with a gilt fillet, pale green endleaves, top edge gilt, the others uncut. (Joints and corners a little rubbed and refurbished). Limited to 479 copies. A very good copy, which remains partly unopened. The binding is amateur but ambitious. "E.K.S." will have to remain a set of initials for now.
