The entire contents of this booklet, including the four-page "Dictionary of the Ape Language" were written by Burroughs. See Heins, pp. 90-3 for information on this scarce pamphlet and the abortive Tarzan Clans movement. Included is a copy of a letter written to Henry Hardy Heins from Hulbert Burroughs explaining the booklet (reproduced in the Heins bibliography).

Description: First edition of this Official Guide for members of the Tarzan Clans of America, a special division of Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan series. Octavo, original wrappers as issued, laid in is a membership application fee and two bookplates from the library of Roy and Dela White. In fine condition. A charming example in exceptional condition. The noble savage Tarzan first appeared in Burroughs' 1912 story Tarzan of the Apes, published in the pulp magazine The All-Story and in book form two years later. An archetypal feral child raised in the African jungle by Mangani great apes, Tarzan spawned innumerable works in literature and film, including 25 sequels and the popular Tarzan movie franchise which lasted from the 1930s to the 1960s.
