Pages in very good condition, albeit yellowed from age; minimal pencilled underlining by prior owner. End pages are yellowed with darkening by spine in both front and back of book. 204 pages. There is an "Author's Note" before the beginning of the "Shadow-Line".

Description: Doubleday, 1924. Olive Boards with tonal motif of a ship. Spine is worn due to age. Head and tail are worn while the label, although still there is not very legible. Pastedown has a prior owner's label on it, while the front free-endpaper has a name that was somewhat erased-again from prior owner. There is an "Author's Note" before the first chapter, penned by Joseph Conrad. This is Conrad's second novel which was inspired by his experience as chief mate of the "Vidar", small steamer. Adapted into the 1951 movie of the same name, directed by Carol Reed and featuring Trevor Howard as Willems (the movie was nominated for best British film and best film from any source at the 1953 BAFTA awards).
