Slightly more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light creasing and staining to gutters; some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Condition is VERY GOOD ; corners and ends of spine bumped but not worn, top of cover and sides, and spine faded. Back edge of spine has a fine split, without causing any damage to the binding. Owner, prof Victor Lange's bookplate on front pastedown, and signature in ink on ffep. Binding tight, text extremely clean, some foxing to ffeps. Spine slightly cocked.

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with bumping resulting in a small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Small crack to the head and tail of the front joint. Light bumping to the tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine and extremities are lightly discoloured. A few small marks to the boards and spine. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are are very lightly age-toned and clean with a few scattered spots. Good

[iv], 538pp. First published in 1919, this novel by Virginia Woolf is set in Edwardian London, and contrasts the daily lives and romantic attachments of two acquaintances, Katharine Hilbery and Mary Datchet. The novel examines the relationships between love, marriage, happiness, and success. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in excellent condition and the contents are tight and clean with a few light foxing marks on the half title and title pages and a little foxing on the fore edge of the text block. A tear to the half title page has been repaired neatly using professional document repair tape. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear and the spine is very faded with some staining. There is a paper sticker giving the author's name and stating 'Uniform Edition' on the spine, probably as issued. The spine ends are bumped with a few nicks and small pieces missing.
